The Cost of Remodeling Your Kitchen
When it comes to remodeling, the kitchen usually tops the list. Whether you live in a home in Scottsdale’s McDowell Mountain Ranch or another North Scottsdale neighborhood, the number one reason for renovating a kitchen is the homeowner ‘ simply can’t stand it anymore’.
A 2017 U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study shows the top priorities are new countertops, back-splashes and sinks. In some cases, homeowners in pretty communities like McDowell Mountain Ranch are opting for a more contemporary open look.
Cost of Kitchen Renovation
The average kitchen renovation costs between $25,000 and $50,000, according to the study. A small percentage of homeowners actually spend more than $100,000. Forty-three percent remodeled the kitchen because they couldn’t stand the decor anymore. Another 40 percent renovated because they simply wanted a newer look -fresher look.
Backsplash
It seems like a less significant detail but according to national statics homeowners having homes in communities like McDowell Mountain Ranch home and other Scottsdale communities, stated, ” the number one reason for wanting to renovate a kitchen was the backsplash. In fact, 90 percent of a remodeling project involves the replacing of this part of the kitchen decor.
Countertops
Replacing countertops is far more important to homeowners than buying electronics. In fact, countertops are replaced in 95 percent of kitchen renovations compared to 15 percent purchasing electronics. After countertops and backsplashes, sinks come in third as the item being replaced with 89 percent choosing to do the kitchen sink.
When it comes to countertops, granite and quartz are tied as the most popular choice with butcher block or wood a distant third.
Contemporary vs. Traditional
More homeowners are choosing a contemporary vs. a traditional style when they remodel their kitchen. Millennials seem to be choosing a modern and farmhouse look while baby boomers prefer a more traditional style. Millennials also like kitchen islands.
White Cabinets
White cabinets still remain popular in McDowell Mountain Ranch homes followed by wood. Millennials like white more than baby boomers. Forty-two percent choose white over 16 percent wood.
As far as lighting, under cabinet lights are very popular. Pendant lights are growing in popularity.
Stainless steel appliances are holding their popularity, as well. With new finishes being added to spice up the competition. I had to use the word “spice” we are talking about kitchen remodels.
